Ahmedabad SG Highway Road Reopens After 14-Month Closure

A key road under the SG Highway bridge connecting YMCA Cross Road, Prahladnagar and Karnavati Club in Ahmedabad was reopened to traffic on October 10, ending a closure of about 14 months and removing a major diversion for daily commuters.

The road had been closed since August 2025, forcing vehicles travelling from Sarkhej towards Gandhinagar or Prahladnagar to avoid the direct route. Motorists had to travel through Bhagwan Circle and Zaveri Circle before reaching the Karnavati Club side of the corridor.

According to the report, the diversion added about 3 kilometres to daily journeys and cost commuters an estimated 15 to 20 minutes in traffic. The reopening, ahead of the Navratri festival, is expected to reduce travel time for motorists using the YMCA junction and the adjoining SG Highway network.

The route below the bridge is now fully open for vehicle movement. Its closure had affected one of the busy connections between the SG Highway, Prahladnagar and the Karnavati Club area, requiring drivers to rely on alternative junctions during the construction period.

The reopening follows earlier information from the National Highways Authority of India about work on the Karnavati bridge and associated finishing activities. NHAI had said that discussions had taken place with the police commissioner and that officials had visited the project site.

In the earlier update cited by the report, NHAI said finishing work included lighting, table checking, thermoplastic painting and road furniture. It also said potholes below the bridge would be filled at the earliest. The agency had indicated that the remaining work was expected to be cleared by October 31.

The road reopening restores the shorter connection for motorists, but the report distinguishes it from the remaining work linked to the bridge and its finishing activities. The next stated milestone is the completion of the pending work by October 31.
