Ahmedabad police have raided a factory in Odhav allegedly manufacturing counterfeit electric wires in the names of well-known brands and seized material valued at ₹40.62 lakh. Three people were arrested at the unit, while the alleged principal owner has been named as wanted in the case.
The raid was conducted at Shed No. 11 in Dhaval Industrial Estate on Odhav Ring Road, where the unit operated under the name Shri G Industries. According to the report, police acted on information received by Vinodkumar Kapasia, a manager with a private limited company based in New Delhi. The information was subsequently passed to Odhav police.
Police, accompanied by panch witnesses, found supervisor Chhotusingh Bhawanisingh Dahiya (Rajput), 25, and workers Mahendrakumar Kuiaram Bhil (Rana), 19, and Gopalkumar Rataram Meghwal, 24, at the premises. All three were arrested during the operation, according to the report.
During the preliminary inquiry, police reportedly found that the factory belonged to Uttamsingh Jabbarsingh Rajput, who lives in Nikol. He has been booked in the case and declared wanted, while the factory premises have been sealed.
The alleged manufacturing process involved melting plastic granules, coating copper wire and printing the names of established companies on the finished cable. Police seized 502 bundles of 75 metres each and 137 bundles of 160 metres each, along with a printing machine, drive panel, weighing scales and drums containing copper wire. The total seized material and equipment was valued at ₹40.62 lakh.
The report said the unit had a complete production setup, including machinery to melt plastic granules, a 25-foot-long cooling trough, two AZTEC printing machines and a laboratory for testing cable wires. The presence of production and testing equipment indicates that the premises had been arranged for more than simple storage or repackaging, according to the details recorded in the police action.
A company representative reportedly told investigators that the company does not sell wires in 75-metre bundles. Police are examining the alleged preparation of such bundles for sale in the market under the names of established brands.
Odhav police have registered a case under the Copyright Act and initiated further legal proceedings. The investigation will determine the alleged role of the wanted owner, the source of the raw materials and machinery, and the intended distribution network for the seized wires. The factory remains sealed as the legal process continues.
