The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is considering a revised parking fee structure that could increase charges for two-wheelers and cars, with the highest proposed rate reaching ₹250 for up to 24 hours in congested areas. The plan is intended to account for differences in location, traffic density and the type of parking facility, according to a report by Nav Gujarat Samay – Ahmedabad.
The proposed changes cover multilevel parking, on-street parking and off-street parking facilities operated or provided by the civic body. Existing parking fees were reportedly fixed around 2015-16 and have not been revised since, according to the municipal administration’s stated position cited in the report.
At present, motorists are charged ₹5 per hour for two-wheelers and ₹15 per hour for cars at the parking facilities covered by the existing system. The civic body is now considering a zonal and location-based structure under which charges would vary according to the area, traffic congestion and parking format.
For regular on-street parking and parking spaces beneath bridges, the proposal reportedly recommends a charge of ₹15 for two-wheelers and ₹30 for cars in Ahmedabad’s central, north-western, south-western and western zones. The reported plan also includes separate rates for multilevel and off-street parking, with two-wheeler charges listed at ₹10, ₹20, ₹70 and ₹100 under different proposed slabs.
The steepest rates have been proposed for areas with heavy traffic. In these locations, parking for up to one hour could cost ₹20 for a two-wheeler and ₹40 for a car. For parking lasting more than one hour and up to three hours, the proposed charges are ₹40 and ₹80 respectively.
For stays between three and six hours, the suggested rates are ₹60 for a two-wheeler and ₹120 for a car. The proposed six-to-12-hour rates are ₹80 and ₹160, while parking for 12 to 24 hours could cost ₹100 for a two-wheeler and ₹250 for a car.
The proposal comes as Ahmedabad continues to address congestion and limited parking capacity in busy parts of the city. The municipal corporation has introduced different parking formats, including multilevel facilities and designated on-road and off-road spaces, to manage vehicles in areas where demand for kerbside space is high.
The revised structure has reportedly been discussed at a meeting of senior municipal officials. However, the available report describes the rates as a proposal and does not state that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has formally approved or implemented them. The final charges, their effective date and the specific locations covered will depend on the civic body’s subsequent decision.
