Ahmedabad Navratri Traffic Restrictions Tighten From October 11

Ahmedabad Navratri traffic restrictions on heavy vehicles during the festival period

Ahmedabad Police will prohibit the entry of heavy goods vehicles, passenger vehicles and tractors with trailers into the city between 8am and 2am every day from October 11 to October 21, citing traffic management and road safety during Navratri and Dussehra.

The restriction applies across the Ahmedabad Police Commissionerate area and will begin on October 11, 2026. It will remain in force until 2am on October 21, according to a public notification issued by the police commissioner and reported by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad.

The notification covers goods vehicles weighing more than 7,500 kg, passenger vehicles and tractor-trailers. It also restricts buses and other passenger vehicles with a capacity of more than 33 passengers during the specified hours. The daily restriction will run from 8am until 2am the following day, extending the period during which these vehicles cannot enter the city.

Police said the order has been issued to maintain traffic arrangements and prevent road accidents during the festival period. Ahmedabad’s Navratri celebrations are scheduled from October 11 to October 20, followed by Dussehra. The extended restriction therefore covers the main period of late-night festival movement as well as the transition into the concluding day of the notification.

The new order expands the timings under earlier traffic notifications. Those arrangements had restricted goods vehicles weighing more than 7,500 kg, passenger vehicles and tractor-trailers from 8am to 11pm. Buses with capacity for more than 33 passengers had previously been restricted from 8am to 10pm. For the Navratri and Dussehra period, the police have extended both categories of restrictions until 2am.

The order has direct implications for freight movement, inter-city passenger services and large-capacity vehicles entering Ahmedabad during the festival. The available notification does not specify the routes, vehicle exemptions or designated alternative entry points for vehicles affected by the restriction. It states that the detailed provisions will determine which vehicles are permitted to enter and which remain barred.

The police have authorised personnel across the commissionerate to enforce the order. Officers ranging from joint and additional commissioners of police to police constables have been instructed to register cases and take action against drivers who violate the notification.

The temporary order will end at 2am on October 21. After that point, the earlier regular traffic notifications will automatically come back into effect, according to the police announcement.
