A section of a large temporary dome built for singer Kirtidan Gadhvi’s Parampara Navratri event near Sarkhej in Ahmedabad collapsed on October 9, prompting police and fire department teams to inspect the site. No injuries were reported because no participants were present on the ground when the structure gave way.
According to a report by Sandesh – Ahmedabad, an estimated 300 to 400 square feet of one side of the dome sank or collapsed at the venue near Makarba, where preparations had been under way for about a month. The Navratri festival was scheduled to begin on October 11.
The incident took place shortly before the venue was expected to receive garba participants, making the condition of temporary event infrastructure an immediate public-safety concern. The source report said the ground was empty of players and visitors at the time of the collapse, preventing injuries or a larger accident.
Teams from the Sarkhej police station and the fire department reached the location after being informed about the incident. The police station’s inspector said a preliminary inquiry had begun to establish why the 300-to-400-square-foot section of the dome collapsed.
The police were also initiating the process of recording an information report in connection with the incident. The source report did not identify a confirmed technical cause, nor did it state whether the remaining structure had been cleared for public use.
The collapse comes after the fire department issued instructions for stricter safety checks of covered air-conditioned domes, according to the report. Such structures are commonly used for large public events and combine temporary frames, roofing or fabric systems, electrical installations, cooling equipment and crowd-management arrangements in a confined venue.
The episode places renewed attention on how temporary event venues are inspected before large gatherings begin. While the reported collapse was limited to one part of the dome and caused no injuries, the incident occurred at a site intended to host participants during a festival that was due to start within days.
The report did not provide details of the dome’s contractor, the venue’s approval documents, the inspection record or the next public-safety measures planned by the organisers and authorities. The immediate official action identified in the report is the ongoing police and fire department inquiry into the cause of the collapse.
