Police in Bavla, in Ahmedabad district, seized liquor and beer worth ₹9.59 lakh from three vehicles parked at the premises of Trimutri Hospital, according to a report by Nav Gujarat Samay. The total value of the seized goods and vehicles was placed at ₹20.59 lakh.
The action followed information received by Bavla police that vehicles carrying a stock of liquor and beer had been concealed in the hospital parking area. Police searched the parking lot and found three suspicious vehicles. A search of the vehicles led to the recovery of 5,472 bottles of liquor and beer.
The seizure included contraband valued at ₹9.59 lakh. Along with the vehicles, the total property seized in the operation was estimated at ₹20.59 lakh. The report said the vehicles were being used to move the stock towards the Saurashtra region through routes in Ahmedabad rural district.
Police also examined the vehicle registration numbers during the investigation. According to the report, the suspected bootleggers had fitted the vehicles with false number plates. The use of altered registration details is now part of the investigation into how the vehicles were moved and concealed at the hospital parking facility.
The location of the seizure adds an operational dimension to the case. Hospital parking areas are generally used by patients, attendants, staff and visitors, and are not ordinarily associated with the storage of large consignments of contraband. In this case, the parking facility was allegedly used as a temporary concealment point before the stock could be moved onwards.
The report also linked the seizure to the broader movement of liquor towards Saurashtra. It said that a significant quantity of liquor transported in that direction is supplied through routes in Ahmedabad rural district. The report attributed criticism of ineffective policing in the district to the continued movement of liquor, but did not provide independent data on the scale of such transport or identify officials making that assessment.
Bavla police registered a case in connection with the seizure and began efforts to identify and locate the people allegedly responsible. The supplied report did not name any arrested individuals, specify the legal sections invoked, or state whether the vehicles were owned by the suspected bootleggers.
The investigation is expected to focus on the ownership of the vehicles, the source of the liquor and beer, the use of false number plates, and the intended recipients of the consignment. Police action on those questions will determine how the seizure is connected to the wider supply route described in the report.
