Ahmedabad Police has extended restrictions on the entry of heavy goods vehicles, tractors, tractor-trolleys and passenger vehicles with capacity for more than 33 people from 8 am to 2 am every day between October 11 and October 21, 2026, to manage traffic and reduce the risk of road accidents during Navratri and Dussehra.
The notification was issued by the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner for the city during the Navratri celebrations, scheduled from October 11 to October 20, followed by Dussehra. The extended restriction will remain in force until 2 am on October 21, after which the earlier regular traffic notifications will automatically come into effect.
Under the revised order, goods vehicles weighing more than 7,500 kg, specified passenger vehicles and tractor-trolleys will not be allowed to enter the city during the notified hours. Buses and other passenger vehicles with seating capacity above 33 people will also face the restriction during the same period.
The new timing is longer than the restrictions contained in the earlier notification. Previously, vehicles weighing more than 7,500 kg, passenger vehicles and tractor-trolleys were barred from entering between 8 am and 11 pm. Vehicles carrying more than 33 passengers were restricted between 8 am and 10 pm. The festival notification extends the common restriction window until 2 am.
The timing covers the late-night period when Navratri events and festival-related movement are expected to continue. Ahmedabad’s traffic police will therefore enforce the order through the night across the period specified in the notification. The report does not provide details of designated alternative routes or exemptions for individual vehicle categories.
The order applies within the jurisdiction of the Ahmedabad Police Commissionerate. Police personnel ranging from joint and additional commissioners of police to constables have been directed to act against drivers who violate the notification. The police department has stated that legal action, including registration of an offence, will be taken against those found breaching the restriction.
The notification is intended to keep traffic movement manageable and prevent road accidents during a period of concentrated movement across the city. By limiting the entry of large goods vehicles, high-capacity passenger vehicles and tractor-trolleys during daytime and late-night hours, the order changes the operating window for these vehicles throughout the festival period.
The temporary arrangement will end at 2 am on October 21, 2026. The regular restrictions contained in the earlier notifications will then resume automatically.
