A 300-400 square foot section of the garba dome for singer Kirtidan Gadhvi’s Parampara Navratri event collapsed near Sarkhej in Ahmedabad on October 9, two days before the programme was scheduled to begin. No deaths or injuries were reported because participants had not yet arrived at the venue.
The incident occurred as preparations were under way for the event, which is scheduled to start on October 11. The collapse was reported to organisers and the police, who reached the site and began examining the structure and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A police inspector from Sarkhej police station said an estimated 300-400 square foot portion of the dome used for garba dancing had collapsed. The officer confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries and said an inquiry was under way to determine why the dome gave way.
The venue is among several party plots and event sites in Ahmedabad being prepared for Navratri programmes. Such venues typically use temporary covered structures to accommodate music, dancing and large gatherings, making the condition and safety of these installations an immediate operational concern before events open to the public.
The collapse took place before the scheduled programme, when the site was not occupied by garba participants. The available report does not establish whether the collapse was linked to construction, materials, weather or any other specific factor. The police investigation is expected to establish the cause.
The incident may affect preparations for the Parampara Navratri programme, although the supplied report does not confirm whether the event schedule has been changed or whether the damaged section will be rebuilt. Further action will depend on the findings of the site inspection and the organisers’ next steps before the October 11 opening.
