A driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol was arrested after residents stopped his zigzagging luxury car on Ahmedabad’s Sola-Naranpura Road and handed him over to Ghatlodia police, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad published on October 21, 2026.

The incident took place near the Jain Parshwanath Temple at around 10 pm. Local residents reportedly noticed the car being driven dangerously and became concerned for the safety of other motorists and pedestrians using the road.

The residents stopped the vehicle and removed the driver from the car. The report said he appeared to be intoxicated and was unable to stand properly. He was seated by the side of the road while residents informed the police control room.

Police officers from Ghatlodia reached the location and took the driver into custody. A search of the vehicle reportedly found two bottles of foreign liquor. The report also said that a quarter bottle was found during the initial checking of the driver.

The driver was identified as Yatin Patel, a resident of Sunset Row House on Gurukul Road in Memnagar, Ahmedabad. Ghatlodia police registered a case and initiated further legal proceedings, including his arrest.

The incident highlights the immediate risks created when suspected intoxicated driving combines with busy urban roads used by vehicles, pedestrians and other road users. In this case, residents intervened before the reported driving could result in a collision or injury, after which the matter was taken up by the police.

Ghatlodia police will proceed with the legal action against the accused driver under the applicable provisions, according to the report.
