Police in Ahmedabad arrested three people after an alleged road-rage incident involving a woman corporator and her family near the Fatewadi Canal area while they were travelling to watch garba, according to a complaint registered at Vejalpur police station. The incident reportedly began over a vehicle not giving way and later escalated into threats, damage to the family’s car and alleged harassment of the corporator.
The family had left Isanpur at around 10pm on Saturday, October 17, according to details recorded in the complaint. They were travelling through a shortcut near the Fatewadi Canal, as suggested by Google Maps, when they encountered a vehicle whose driver was allegedly speaking on a mobile phone and did not move aside despite repeated honking.
The corporator’s son reportedly stopped the vehicle and asked the driver why he was not giving way. The exchange turned into an argument, with the other driver allegedly using abusive language and getting into a physical confrontation. People gathered at the spot and the two vehicles then moved on, the complaint stated.
The dispute allegedly resumed near a turning towards Sarkhej. According to the police account cited in the report, the driver called his mother-in-law and two friends to the location. The group allegedly blocked the corporator’s vehicle, issued threats and abused the occupants. When the corporator opened the window to speak to them, one of the men allegedly held her hand and tried to pull her out of the vehicle.
The complaint further alleged that the group attempted to break the vehicle’s window and open its doors, damaged the side mirror and threatened to kill the occupants. The corporator then called the emergency number 112, after which police reached the location. The family later went to Vejalpur police station and submitted a detailed complaint.
The police registered a case against three people. One of those named in the complaint was identified as Shoeb Shah Fakir, while the other two were described as unidentified individuals in the initial account. Police subsequently arrested all three during action carried out the same night, the source reported.
The arrests have followed a dispute that began with a routine obstruction on a congested urban road, highlighting how roadside confrontations can quickly become threats to personal safety when traffic disagreements escalate. The allegations in the complaint remain subject to the police investigation and due legal process.
Vejalpur police are also checking whether any of the three arrested individuals have a previous criminal record. Further legal proceedings and investigation into the incident are under way.
