The Saket court has extended the judicial custody of three accused in the Aastha Kunj gang rape case by 14 days, allowing Delhi Police additional time to examine their mobile phone call detail records as part of the ongoing investigation.

The accused—identified as Hemant, Mukesh and Asif—were produced before the court through video conferencing after their previous custody period ended. Special POCSO Judge Swati Sharma passed the order after the investigating officer sought more time to conduct a detailed examination of the call records.

Senior public prosecutor Vasi Ur Rahman Chaudhary, appearing for the state, told the court that the investigation was still in progress and that continued custody was necessary. The court subsequently approved the request and extended the judicial custody of all three accused by 14 days.

The police are examining the call detail records of the accused as part of the investigation into the case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The material supplied in the report does not disclose the specific findings, if any, from the CDR examination so far.

All three accused are residents of Faridabad in Haryana. According to the report, one of them is studying law. Police have also registered a separate case against Asif alleging an attempt to kill members of the police team. He was arrested after an encounter with the Delhi Police team, the report said.

The case has also drawn attention to safety conditions at Aastha Kunj Park in south Delhi. A related report cited by Jagran said that municipal lighting had not been restored at the park even 12 days after the incident, highlighting the operational role of basic public infrastructure in the safety of urban open spaces. The available report does not provide further details on the status of lighting work or any additional measures ordered by the authorities.

The immediate legal development is the 14-day custody extension, while the police continue examining the call records and completing other parts of the investigation. The accused remain in judicial custody as the inquiry proceeds.
