Bengaluru Police have arrested a migrant worker from Bihar identified as Ali for allegedly creating and posting an AI-generated video showing a bomb blast at Vidhana Soudha, the Karnataka legislature building. Police said no real explosion occurred and described the clip as synthetic.
The video went viral on October 20 after being shared from an Instagram account named “Jnx king Hg”. In the clip, Vidhana Soudha appears to be destroyed in an explosion after a person mimics pulling a trigger. The post reportedly carried a caption claiming that the account holder had blown up the building.
The fabricated video triggered outrage online, with users tagging Bengaluru Police and seeking action against the account holder. Following complaints, police began registering a first information report and the Instagram account was deactivated, according to the report.
Vidhana Soudha is a high-security government building that houses the Karnataka state legislature. Police officials said that fake content depicting an attack on such a location could create panic and raise security concerns even when no physical incident has taken place.
The accused is being interrogated as investigators seek to establish the motive behind creating and sharing the video. The report does not provide details of the specific legal sections included in the FIR or say whether other individuals were involved in producing or circulating the clip.
The case highlights the operational challenge posed by synthetic media around sensitive public institutions. A digitally manipulated video can spread rapidly before authorities establish that the depicted event is false, forcing police and platforms to respond to both the content and the public reaction.
Police have warned against using artificial intelligence tools to create threatening content. Further details about the investigation and the FIR are awaited.
