Pune’s voter list revision drive has received 1,17,818 applications across the district’s 21 Assembly constituencies, including 83,514 requests for new voter registration, according to the district election branch. The applications were submitted as part of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections.
The total includes 32,880 applications seeking corrections to existing voter details and 1,424 requests for deletion of names from the electoral roll. The figures cover applications received so far and do not represent the final electoral roll.
The revision process follows directions from the Election Commission of India and is intended to register eligible voters, update records of people who have moved and improve the accuracy of electoral lists. The district election branch is continuing the updating work across all 21 constituencies.
Shirur recorded 10,381 applications, while Hadapsar received 10,506. Vadgaon Sheri recorded 9,073 applications, followed by Bhor with 9,396, Chinchwad with 8,434 and Khed-Alandi with 8,113 applications.
The application numbers vary across constituencies. Shivajinagar recorded 3,441 applications, while Kasba Peth was also identified among the city constituencies with comparatively fewer applications. Shivajinagar is a prominent urban constituency with a concentration of educational institutions.
The applications include requests from people seeking to enter the electoral roll for the first time, voters seeking changes to their existing details and individuals or authorities requesting the removal of names. The district election branch will examine and process these requests as part of the revision exercise.
The process is particularly relevant in a district containing both dense urban constituencies and larger semi-urban and rural segments. Differences in application volumes reflect the varying scale and composition of constituencies, but the figures alone do not establish the reasons for the variation.
For residents, the revision provides an administrative route to seek registration or correct details before the final electoral roll is prepared. For election authorities, the exercise involves checking applications and ensuring that eligible voters are included while records requiring correction or deletion are addressed.
The district election branch is continuing the roll-updating process ahead of the upcoming polls. Further details on the final electoral roll and subsequent stages of the revision will depend on the processing of the applications received.
