A fire broke out in a flat on the eighth floor of Brigade-7 Gardens apartment complex on Bengaluru’s Uttarahalli Main Road on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a four-hour operation by the fire and emergency services department. No deaths or injuries were reported in the account, but furniture, electronic equipment, clothing and documents inside the flat were destroyed.
Fire personnel reached the apartment after neighbouring residents noticed dense smoke and alerted the department. The operation began around noon and continued until 4 pm, when the fire was brought under control, according to Prajavani’s report.
The affected flat was located in the middle section of the building’s eighth floor, which created difficulties for the fire department’s operation. The smoke was visible to residents in nearby flats and led to anxiety within the apartment complex while the response was under way.
According to information provided by the flat owner, a lamp had been lit in the prayer room on Wednesday morning before the occupants left for work. Police said the lamp may have caused the fire, but the cause has not been established conclusively.
The incident highlights the operational challenges involved in responding to fires inside high-rise residential buildings, where access to upper floors and flats located away from the building’s edge can complicate firefighting. In this case, the fire was contained to the affected flat based on the details available in the report.
Personnel from the Subramanyapura police station visited the location and conducted an inspection. Police said they were investigating the incident based on information provided by the flat owners. Further details about the building’s fire-safety systems, the extent of smoke damage beyond the flat and any formal assessment by the fire department were not provided in the report.
