Goa School FIR After Student Assault, Mother Allegedly Locked In

Goa school FIR investigation outside a school in Mandrem after alleged student assault

Mandrem police have registered an FIR against a school teacher and other staff members after a 14-year-old student was allegedly slapped over a notebook issue and his mother was allegedly locked inside the school when she raised a complaint, according to a report by Times of India – Goa.

The incident reportedly took place at a school in Mandrem, Goa. Police said the teacher allegedly struck the boy across the face because he had brought a short notebook to class instead of a long one. The alleged assault caused physical injuries to the student, the report said.

The boy’s mother subsequently raised the issue on the school’s official WhatsApp group, highlighting what she described as the teacher’s alleged negligence. She was then summoned to the school premises. According to her complaint, staff members allegedly confined her inside the school control room by latching its doors from both the inside and outside.

The complaint further alleged that while she was confined, one of the teachers attempted to physically assault and verbally abuse her. The allegations form the basis of the police case; the FIR does not establish guilt, and the investigation is continuing.

Mandrem police registered Crime No. 93/2026 under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. These include Section 115(2), relating to voluntarily causing hurt; Section 127(2), relating to wrongful confinement; Section 131, concerning assault or criminal force; Section 352, concerning intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of peace; and Section 3(5), covering acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.

Police also invoked Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act for alleged child abuse. The sections indicate that the case covers both the alleged treatment of the minor and the reported confinement and conduct involving his mother. Further investigation is underway, according to the police account cited in the report.

The case places the school’s internal grievance process and its response to complaints about student treatment under scrutiny. The reported sequence began with an alleged classroom assault, moved to a complaint in an official school communication group, and culminated in a police complaint after the parent’s visit to the premises. The investigation will establish the circumstances of the incident, identify the roles of the staff members named in the case and determine whether the allegations are supported by evidence.

The next steps will depend on the police investigation into Crime No. 93/2026 and the evidence collected under the BNS and Goa Children’s Act provisions.
