Mandrem police have registered an FIR against a school teacher and other staff members for allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old student and locking his mother inside the school premises after she raised concerns about the incident. The case brings allegations of violence, wrongful confinement and child abuse inside a school under investigation.
According to police, the incident began when the teacher allegedly slapped the boy across his face over a classroom issue involving the type of notebook he had brought. The student was reportedly carrying a short notebook instead of a long one, and the alleged assault caused physical injuries.
The boy’s mother later raised the issue on the school’s official WhatsApp group, referring to the teacher’s alleged negligence. She was subsequently summoned to the school premises in Mandrem, where the accused staff members allegedly confined her inside a control room by latching the doors from both the inside and outside.
Police said that while the woman was allegedly being confined, one of the teachers attempted to physically assault and verbally abuse her. The allegations are based on the mother’s complaint, and the police investigation is continuing.
Mandrem police registered the case as Crime No. 93/2026. The FIR invokes Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, relating to voluntarily causing hurt; Section 127(2), relating to wrongful confinement; Section 131, relating to assault or criminal force; Section 352, relating to intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of peace; and Section 3(5), concerning acts carried out by several persons in furtherance of a common intention.
Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act, concerning child abuse, has also been invoked. The case now places the conduct of the school staff, the alleged treatment of the minor and the circumstances of the mother’s confinement before the investigating authorities.
Further investigation is underway, according to Mandrem police.
