Pune Water Crisis Deepens as Hadapsar Civic Office Goes Dry

Pune water crisis at a civic office in Hadapsar amid reported supply problems

Pune’s Hadapsar-Manjari regional office has reportedly had no drinking water for 15 days, even as residents across the civic jurisdiction complain of irregular and allegedly contaminated supply. Employees and visitors are buying bottled water from outside, according to a report by Lokmat – Pune published on October 21.

The Pune Municipal Corporation office serves Sasane Nagar, Hadapsar village, Kale-Borate Nagar, Satavwadi, Gondhalenagar and other neighbourhoods where residents have reported delays in water supply. The report also says that some residents have complained about the quality of water received through household taps.

The regional office houses several civic departments, including property tax, encroachment, birth and death registration, tree pruning and gardens, roads, sewerage and drainage, solid waste management, pest control and property-related services. The premises also contain an Aadhaar centre, bringing residents to the building for identity-related work and other municipal services.

The shortage has affected municipal employees, support staff and visitors. Women, children, mothers with newborns, senior citizens and workers are among those who visit the office, according to the report. With no drinking-water arrangement available on the premises for 15 days, people have reportedly been purchasing bottled water at their own expense.

The situation has drawn attention to the separation of administrative responsibility within the civic building. Lokmat reported that administrative officer Mahesh Khandare, when contacted and met in person, said he was responsible for administrative work on the third floor and had no direct connection with issues on the ground, first or second floors.

The report does not identify which municipal department is responsible for restoring drinking water at the office or specify the cause of the disruption. It also does not provide details of any official repair schedule or water-quality testing related to the complaints from residents.

Residents have demanded urgent action on both the regional office’s drinking-water shortage and the wider supply problems in Hadapsar-Manjari. They have sought a permanent response to irregular and allegedly impure water supply in the area, along with the immediate restoration of drinking-water facilities at the municipal office.
