Two people were injured after an explosion at an under-construction building on Jeremiah Road in Bengaluru’s Pulakeshinagar on Tuesday afternoon, with authorities sending material recovered from the site for forensic examination to establish the cause.
The blast occurred at around 2.30 pm and was loud enough for nearby residents to initially suspect a gas cylinder explosion. Police suspect that a battery may have exploded, but officials have not established the exact cause of the incident.
The two injured people are suspected to be construction workers. They were taken to a hospital for treatment and are reported to have sustained severe injuries. The report did not identify the injured workers or provide further details about their medical condition.
Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge said on Wednesday that authorities were examining the material recovered from the blast site. “We are evaluating that. All materials have gone for a forensic audit. Once that is done, we will get back to you,” he told the media.
The forensic examination is expected to help investigators determine what triggered the explosion and whether it involved a battery or another material present at the construction site. Until that examination is completed, the cause remains unconfirmed.
Vikram Amathe, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), visited the site after the incident. A team from the Anti-Terrorism Cell also examined the location as part of the investigation. The involvement of multiple teams reflects the authorities’ effort to establish the nature and source of the blast before drawing conclusions.
The incident has brought attention to the risks associated with active construction sites, where workers may be exposed to stored equipment, power systems and other materials. However, the supplied report does not establish whether any safety violation occurred at the building or whether the suspected battery was part of construction equipment.
The blast took place in a built-up part of Bengaluru, making the incident relevant not only to workers at the site but also to residents and other people in the surrounding neighbourhood. Investigators are continuing to examine the site and the recovered material. Authorities are expected to provide further details after the forensic examination is completed.
