Bengaluru Construction-Site Blast Injures Two as Probe Widens

Police examine a Bengaluru construction site after a blast injured two people.

Two people were seriously injured after a suspicious object exploded inside a building under construction in Bengaluru’s Pulakeshinagar police station limits on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a police investigation and visits by senior internal-security officials.

The blast occurred at about 2pm on the fourth floor of a building belonging to Abdul Rehman. The injured workers were identified as Suraj and Allauddin. They were taken to hospital for treatment and were reported to be in intensive care, with their condition described as critical in the initial report.

Police reached the site after residents heard a loud explosion and began examining the circumstances of the incident. Information available from the scene indicated that the object may have been battery-like, but the nature and composition of the material had not been established when the report was published.

The presence of the suspicious object led senior officials from the Anti-Terrorism Cell and the Internal Security Division to visit the location. Their involvement does not, by itself, establish the cause or motive behind the blast. Police are collecting evidence and examining whether the incident was accidental or deliberate.

Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge said the material recovered from the site had been sent for forensic examination. Responding to journalists’ questions, he said further information would be shared after the police investigation produced findings and the forensic report was available.

The incident has placed attention on safety conditions at an active construction site, where workers and other people may be exposed to stored equipment, electrical components and unidentified materials. However, the available report does not establish how the object reached the building, who handled it or whether any construction activity was directly linked to the explosion.

Police have not announced a final explanation for the blast. The investigation is continuing across multiple possible angles, and the forensic examination is expected to help determine what the object was and how the explosion occurred. Further details are expected after investigators receive the laboratory findings.
