Jewar Airport Gets 29-km Road Link to Four Expressways

Jewar airport connectivity road planned across Yamuna City toward major expressways

The Jewar airport connectivity plan is set to gain a major road link as the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) prepares to extend a 130-metre-wide road from Greater Noida West into Yamuna City and connect it with four expressways. The proposed route is expected to improve access to Noida International Airport, link more than 20 sectors and reduce the need for traffic from several districts to pass through Pari Chowk.

The road will extend through the YEIDA area for about 29 kilometres, beginning near Alonda village and continuing beyond the airport towards the proposed Palwal-Khurja Expressway. Once completed, it is planned to connect with the Delhi-Meerut Expressway or National Highway 24, the Jewar Link Expressway, the Yamuna Expressway and the Palwal-Khurja Expressway.

A 130-metre-wide section already exists between Sirsa in Greater Noida and Char Murti in Greater Noida West. The existing route reaches NH-24 near Pratap Vihar in Ghaziabad. YEIDA now plans to extend the road through Yamuna City, creating a direct road connection between Ghaziabad and the airport, according to the report by Live Hindustan – NCR.

The road will also connect with the proposed 74.3-kilometre Jewar Link Expressway near YEIDA’s Sector 21. The link expressway is intended to connect the Ganga Expressway with the Yamuna Expressway. The report said that up to 95 per cent of the land required for the link expressway had been purchased. Its connection with the 130-metre-wide road is expected to provide access to the Yamuna Expressway from both sides of the planned sectors.

The proposed network is intended to improve access for travellers arriving from Agra, Mathura and Aligarh, who may otherwise need to travel towards Pari Chowk before reaching the airport-linked road network. The 130-metre-wide road is also expected to connect more than 20 YEIDA sectors, including Sectors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8B, 8C, 8D, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 16A, 18 and 31B.

The project will require the purchase of 812 acres of land in the YEIDA area. Under the proposed arrangement, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will construct the road while YEIDA will provide the budget. The two sides have reached an oral understanding, and formal paperwork is expected to begin soon, the report said.

Rajendra Bhati, general manager for projects at YEIDA, said NHAI had been selected to construct the 130-metre-wide road. He described it as the city’s most important road after the Yamuna Expressway and said it would connect the airport with several districts and cities. YEIDA’s next stated step is to complete the formalities for the NHAI-led construction arrangement.
