Indore Rooftop Fire Contained After Ravana Dahan Sparks Ignite Waste

Indore rooftop fire response near a built-up Transport Nagar neighbourhood

A rooftop fire broke out in a locked building in Juni Indore on Tuesday night after sparks from firecrackers used during a Ravana Dahan event landed on waste material kept on the terrace, prompting a fire-service response and a brief power shutdown in the area. No injuries were reported.

The incident was reported at around 9.15 pm in a building opposite Suyog Hospital in Transport Nagar. According to information reported by the Times News Network, the fire spread quickly through waste lying on the rooftop and caused panic among residents in the surrounding area.

A fire tender from the Moti Tabela fire station was sent to the location after residents alerted the authorities. Firefighters brought the blaze under control and prevented it from spreading to nearby structures, according to the report.

Juni Indore police station in-charge Anil Gupta said residents reported that some children were carrying out Ravana Dahan near the building when a firecracker spark flew onto the terrace of the locked structure. The spark is suspected to have ignited the waste material stored there.

The building was locked when the fire started, and the presence of waste on the rooftop allowed the flames to spread rapidly. The reported sequence also brought attention to the risks created when combustible material is stored in areas that are difficult to access during an emergency.

As a precaution while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, the power supply in the area was switched off briefly. The measure was taken during firefighting operations and was restored after the immediate response, the report said.

Firefighters’ intervention prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures, but the incident occurred in a built-up area where a rooftop fire could have affected neighbouring properties if it had remained uncontrolled. The report did not mention structural damage, evacuations or injuries.

The incident followed a Ravana Dahan event during which firecrackers were being burst near the building. Police said the spark was suspected to have travelled to the terrace and ignited the waste. Further details about the quantity of waste, the building’s ownership or any action concerning rooftop storage were not available in the report.

The fire was brought under control by the Moti Tabela fire station team, and no further escalation was reported. Authorities’ next steps, including any inspection of the locked building and the material stored on its terrace, were not specified.
