Two members of a family drowned and two others remain missing after all four were swept away by the tide at Ganagallavanipet beach in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, on Monday. The group had entered the water when the incident occurred, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle citing police.
The two people who drowned were identified as Pavani and Madhavi. The identities of the two missing persons were not stated in the report.
Expert swimmers are searching the beach and surrounding waters for the missing members of the family. The search was continuing at the time of the report.
Police said the victims belonged to Ramabhadrapuram in Vizianagaram district. The report did not provide details on the family’s exact relationship, the time of the incident, or whether any coastal safety personnel were present at the beach.
The incident again places attention on the risks faced by visitors at open beaches, where tides and changing water conditions can quickly carry people away from the shore. Further information is expected from the police and search teams as efforts to locate the two missing persons continue.
