Gujarat Road Accidents Leave Death Toll Unclear After Three Crashes

Gujarat road accidents scene involving a damaged car and emergency response on a highway

A report by Sandesh – Ahmedabad says three separate road accidents in Bharuch, Gandhinagar and Banaskantha have caused multiple deaths and injuries, but the overall toll requires verification because the report contains conflicting figures.

The report states that a crash near Manubar village on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Bharuch involved a car travelling from Vadodara towards Bharuch and an Eicher truck. Three of the four people in the car reportedly died at the scene. One of those named among the deceased was 27-year-old Vadodara police sub-inspector Yash Patel. Local police reached the location and began legal proceedings, according to the report.

A second crash was reported near Maharaja Hotel within the Adalaj police station area of Gandhinagar. Sandesh reported that a car travelling at high speed collided with a roadside tree after its driver allegedly lost control when he became drowsy while returning with other occupants after playing garba. The report said three people died and two others were seriously injured and shifted to a nearby hospital. However, a later passage in the same report refers to two deaths in the incident, creating an unresolved discrepancy in the incident-wise count.

The third crash reportedly occurred near Badarpura Patiya on the Palanpur–Deesa Highway in Banaskantha district. According to Sandesh, an unidentified vehicle struck a passenger rickshaw carrying people returning towards Deesa after a family medical visit in Palanpur. A husband and wife from Sodiya village in Deesa taluka and the rickshaw driver from Sotamla village were reported dead. The unidentified driver allegedly fled the scene.

The report said personnel from Gadh police station reached the site, moved the bodies for post-mortem examination and registered a case against the unidentified driver. Further investigation was under way, according to the report.

Taken together, the incident descriptions account for three deaths in Bharuch, either two or three deaths in Adalaj, and three deaths in Banaskantha. That produces a described total of either eight or nine deaths, not the headline figure of 11. The discrepancy means the total number of fatalities, as well as the final Adalaj count, should not be treated as confirmed without statements from the relevant police authorities or hospital and post-mortem records.

The incidents also involve different road environments: an expressway collision between a car and a goods vehicle, a single-vehicle crash involving a roadside tree, and a suspected hit-and-run involving a passenger rickshaw. The available report does not establish whether any common road, vehicle, lighting, enforcement or traffic-management factor connected the three incidents.

Police investigations were reported to have begun in all three cases. Confirmation of the final death toll, the condition of the injured survivors and the legal status of the suspected hit-and-run case remain pending.
