Bengaluru Airport Bird Strike Ends in Safe Landing for 148

Air India Express aircraft at Bengaluru airport after a reported bird strike

A Bengaluru airport bird strike involving an Air India Express flight from Visakhapatnam ended with a safe landing on October 20, with all 148 passengers and the crew reported to be unharmed.

The bird hit the aircraft while it was travelling towards Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, according to a report by Prajavani. The aircraft continued its approach and landed safely at the airport despite the incident.

Technical teams were checking whether the aircraft’s engines had sustained any damage, the report said. The inspection is being carried out in line with safety standards before the aircraft’s condition and subsequent operations can be assessed.

No passenger or crew member was injured in the incident. The report did not provide details about the bird involved, the exact point of impact, the aircraft’s scheduled service after landing or whether the flight experienced any delay.

Bird strikes are an operational concern for airports because an impact during take-off, approach or landing can require aircraft inspections and can affect the movement of the aircraft even when a flight lands safely. In this case, the immediate outcome was a safe arrival, while the technical assessment remained the next operational step.

The incident comes after another bird strike involving an Emirates aircraft arriving from Dubai at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. That aircraft was landing near Terminal 3 at about 3.10 pm on Saturday, according to the report. Emirates said flight EK517 had been hit by a bird after arriving in Delhi on October 17 and that its return service from Delhi to Dubai would be delayed as a result.

The Delhi incident illustrates how a bird strike can continue to affect airport operations after an aircraft has completed its landing. In the Bengaluru case, the available report confirms the safe landing and the absence of injuries, but does not establish whether the technical inspection resulted in damage or operational disruption.

For passengers, the immediate safety outcome at Bengaluru was clear: the aircraft landed safely and no injuries were reported. The final operational status of the aircraft will depend on the findings of the technical teams examining its engines.
