Lucknow Airport Adds 26 Daily Movements as Bangkok Flights Return

Lucknow Bangkok flights and aircraft operations at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport

Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is set to increase planned daily flight movements from 108 to 134 under the winter schedule, while direct flights to Bangkok will resume from November 17 after a gap of more than four months, airport sources said on Tuesday.

The winter schedule will start on October 25 and is expected to be fully implemented by November 1. It will connect Lucknow with 20 domestic and 10 international destinations, including Abu Dhabi and Riyadh, according to details reported by news agency PTI.

The returning Lucknow-Bangkok service will connect the Uttar Pradesh capital directly with Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport. Thai AirAsia is scheduled to operate the service, which will arrive in Lucknow at 10.35pm and depart at 11.30pm, airport sources said.

The direct service was discontinued on June 5. Its resumption gives passengers from Lucknow and nearby areas an additional international travel option without requiring a connecting flight through another Indian airport. The airport’s planned increase in movements also expands its scheduled operating activity during the winter period, although the final number of flights will depend on airline decisions and operational requirements.

Airport sources said the proposed expansion is based on schedules submitted by airline partners. Actual flight movements, service frequencies and timings may therefore change. The sources also said operations could be affected by evolving geopolitical developments, including the ongoing crisis in West Asia.

The airport is preparing for winter operating conditions, particularly low visibility and dense fog, which can disrupt flight arrivals and departures in northern India. It recently held a Pre-Low Visibility Procedures coordination meeting with airline partners, Air Traffic Control, the Airports Authority of India and other stakeholders.

The meeting reviewed preparedness for the fog season and sought to strengthen coordination among the agencies responsible for maintaining safe airport operations. Such coordination is significant for an airport handling a higher number of scheduled movements during periods when visibility-related disruptions can affect flight sequencing and aircraft operations.

Since January, Lucknow airport has also handled around 149 flights diverted from other airports during operational disruptions, PTI reported. Airport sources said this helped maintain continuity for affected services and demonstrated the airport’s role as an alternative operating location when flights cannot use their original destinations.

The winter schedule, the resumption of the Bangkok route and the low-visibility preparedness measures will now move into implementation, subject to airline schedules and operational conditions. The airport’s planned schedule will take effect from October 25 and be fully implemented by November 1, while the Bangkok service is scheduled to restart on November 17.
