An Ahmedabad school has been fined ₹10,000 after 54 children admitted under the Right to Education (RTE) quota were left without their annual government assistance because their details were not entered on the mandatory RTE portal, according to the Ahmedabad city District Education Officer (DEO) office.
The action was taken against Solaris Public School in Solā, Ahmedabad, after a parent complained that children admitted under the RTE provision had not received the assistance. A DEO investigation found that the school had not entered the students’ details on the RTE DBMS portal, the Gujarat Samachar report said.
Under the assistance process described by the report, children admitted through the RTE scheme receive ₹3,000 from the government each year. Schools are required to enter the details of eligible students on the RTE portal so that the assistance can be processed.
The 54 affected students belong to different standards and had secured admission to Solaris Public School under the RTE provision. However, because the school did not complete the portal entries, they were excluded from the assistance process for the current year.
The DEO imposed the penalty under the provisions of the RTE Act. The report attributes the action to the school’s failure to complete a required administrative step, rather than to a rejection of the students’ eligibility for admission. The school has also been directed to enter the children’s details on the portal.
The case highlights how a digital entry requirement can determine whether an approved education benefit reaches children. In this instance, the children had already been admitted and were attending the school, but the absence of their records on the designated portal prevented the assistance from being released.
The scale of the wider RTE assistance process underlines the importance of accurate school-level reporting. The report said that assistance of ₹3,000 had been paid to more than 80,000 children covered under RTE in Ahmedabad during the current year. The Solaris Public School case emerged after a parent questioned why the benefit had not reached the children.
The immediate administrative remedy is the school’s compliance with the DEO’s direction. The report said the assistance will be released only after the students’ entries are completed on the RTE portal. It did not provide a specific date for the entries or for payment to the 54 children.
