Batasingaram Flyover Crash Injures 15, Raises Road Safety Alarm

RTC bus near the Batasingaram flyover after a Hyderabad road accident

Fifteen passengers were injured when an RTC bus travelling from Khammam to Hyderabad rammed into a cement lorry while entering the Batasingaram flyover near Abdullapurmet in the early hours of Monday, according to Abdullapurmet police. Two women suffered fractures, while the other passengers sustained minor cuts and bruises.

The collision occurred at around 3 am as the bus approached the flyover. Police suspect that overspeeding may have contributed to the accident. A non-fatal road accident case has been registered and further investigation is underway.

Among those injured were Bandaru Thirupathamma, 65, and Duggi Laxmi, 38, who were travelling with family members, including two children. Thirupathamma suffered fractures to both legs, while Laxmi sustained fractures to her right wrist and collarbone.

Both women were undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad. The remaining injured passengers were reported to have suffered minor injuries, and none of the 15 passengers was reported to be in serious condition.

The crash involved a public transport bus and a cement lorry on a flyover approach, placing attention on the risks faced by heavy vehicles and passenger traffic during low-visibility early-morning hours. The police account has not indicated whether road design, lighting, vehicle condition or other factors were involved beyond the preliminary suspicion of overspeeding.

The case remains under investigation. Police are expected to establish the circumstances of the collision, including the speed and movement of the bus and lorry before impact, as part of the inquiry.
