Delhi Dussehra Security Tightened With 3,000 Police and Drones

Delhi Dussehra security personnel monitoring a crowded Ramleela venue in Yamunapar

Delhi Dussehra security has been tightened across Yamunapar, with around 3,000 police personnel, nearly 200 paramilitary personnel, 100 patrol vehicles and drones deployed to monitor Ramleela venues and manage crowds. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to be present in the area, prompting additional arrangements by the police and traffic authorities.

Around 70 Ramleela events are being held across Yamunapar, according to a report by Jagran – New Delhi. The largest gathering is expected at CBD Ground in East Delhi, where five major Ramleelas are taking place. Police expect more than one lakh people to reach the ground during the Dussehra celebrations.

The Shahdara district police have coordinated with the traffic police to regulate movement and prevent congestion around the main venues. Police teams will patrol the area in approximately 100 vehicles, while drones will be used to assess crowd density and monitor activity at the event locations.

Shahdara Deputy Commissioner of Police RP Meena said security had been increased at Ramleela venues across the district. Assistant Commissioner of Police-rank officers will supervise security arrangements, while personnel will ensure that spectators remain at a safe distance during the burning of the effigy of Ravana.

The crowd-control plan is focused particularly on the period around the effigy burning, when large numbers of people are expected to move simultaneously. Police officials said the arrangements are intended to prevent overcrowding and avoid the possibility of a stampede. Drone surveillance will help officials track crowd concentration and identify areas requiring intervention.

Security has also been increased in parts of northeast Delhi, including Shastri Park, Usmanpur and Yamuna Vihar. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Lamba said suspicious individuals would be monitored at these locations. Police will also use closed-circuit television cameras installed at the Ramleela venues for surveillance.

The deployment places multiple agencies at the centre of the event-management plan. District police will oversee security at the venues, traffic police will coordinate movement and crowd access, and paramilitary personnel will support the wider security arrangement. The use of patrol vehicles, drones and CCTV cameras is intended to combine physical deployment with real-time monitoring across dispersed celebration sites.

With the Prime Minister’s presence and a projected gathering of more than one lakh people at CBD Ground, the police response covers both protection duties and public crowd management. The authorities’ immediate focus is on maintaining safe distances during the Ravana effigy burning, monitoring crowd levels and supervising movement at Ramleela grounds across Yamunapar.
