East Delhi traffic diversions will be in force from 5pm to 8pm on Monday as Dussehra celebrations are expected to bring large numbers of devotees, visitors and pedestrians to event areas, the Delhi Traffic Police has announced.
The restrictions are expected to affect movement on NH-24, Vikas Marg, Road No. 56, Road No. 57 and Road No. 57A. The traffic police has warned that vehicles on these routes may face congestion and slow movement during the evening period as crowds gather for celebrations.
Commuters travelling through East Delhi during the three-hour window have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and use alternate routes. The advisory is intended to help motorists avoid delays around locations where Dussehra-related gatherings are expected to increase pedestrian and vehicular movement.
The traffic police has also asked motorists to park only at designated locations. Unauthorised or poorly positioned vehicles could obstruct traffic management operations in areas where personnel are deployed to regulate movement and maintain access around the event sites.
Drivers have been advised to proceed cautiously and remain alert to the movement of pedestrians. The traffic police has asked commuters to follow instructions issued by personnel on the ground, cooperate with traffic regulation measures and check for updates before setting out.
The restrictions are particularly relevant for people using NH-24, Vikas Marg and the numbered roads linking parts of East Delhi during the evening peak. Travellers have been advised to factor additional time into their journeys, as traffic may move slowly near celebration venues and surrounding roads.
The advisory also noted that Dussehra celebrations are taking place at multiple locations across Delhi. As a result, congestion may not be limited to the listed East Delhi routes and could affect traffic in other parts of the city during the evening. The traffic police has asked road users to remain alert, follow current advisories and avoid parking outside designated areas.
The announced traffic curbs are scheduled to remain in effect from 5pm to 8pm on Monday, with commuters expected to monitor traffic updates and follow directions from personnel deployed in the affected areas.
