Delhi-NCR will deploy more than 13,000 police personnel for Dussehra celebrations on Tuesday, with security teams assigned to religious sites, public venues, processions and locations expected to draw large crowds, police officials said.

Delhi Police said around 10,000 personnel would be deployed across the capital. Officers will be stationed round the clock at sensitive locations, including prominent temples, pandals and venues hosting Dussehra events. Senior officers will inspect deployment sites and review whether adequate personnel are available at each location.

The security plan will focus on crowd management, traffic regulation and the prevention of street crimes in areas expected to experience heavy footfall. Police teams will remain alert to suspicious activity and respond to emergencies, while personnel will be positioned at strategic points to manage the movement of devotees and visitors.

In Gurugram, around 2,200 police personnel have been assigned to 66 Ravan Dahan sites, 17 religious processions and other Dussehra-related events. Police have prepared arrangements to maintain law and order, while traffic teams have drawn up plans to regulate movement around crowded venues.

Faridabad has deployed 1,200 police personnel for the celebrations. The force will support law-and-order arrangements and crowd management across locations where large gatherings are expected. Police in the two Haryana cities will coordinate traffic and security measures around religious events and public celebrations.

Delhi Police said the Central District required extensive arrangements because of the rise in footfall during the festive season. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Central District Angad Mehta said the district sees a substantial increase in visitors during Dussehra and Navratri, particularly around Jhandewalan, while Durga Puja celebrations are also taking place at multiple locations.

“The Central District experiences a very heavy load during the festive season. Beyond Dussehra, we also see a significant footfall at Jhandewalan during Navratri. Furthermore, Durga Puja celebrations are currently underway simultaneously at multiple locations,” Mehta said.

He said male and female police personnel had been deployed around the clock and that senior officers were regularly visiting deployment sites. “Consequently, the Central District has put comprehensive arrangements in place, with police personnel, both male and female, deployed around the clock. Senior officers also conduct regular visits to the deployment sites. In light of this, we have ensured the deployment of an adequate police force,” Mehta added.

The arrangements also aim to address pickpocketing, snatching and other offences that can become more difficult to monitor in dense festival crowds. Police officers said teams would continue assessing requirements at different locations, while senior officials monitor security and traffic arrangements through the celebrations.
