Telangana Sanctions 7 Lakh Homes Under Indiramma Housing Scheme

Indiramma housing scheme sanction letters being distributed to Telangana housing beneficiaries

Telangana has sanctioned 7 lakh houses for eligible poor families under the Indiramma housing scheme in two phases, Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said while distributing sanction letters in Kusumanchi mandal of Palair constituency on Monday.

The minister initiated the distribution of sanction letters for the second phase from his camp office in Kusumanchi, ahead of the Dasara festival. He said the Congress government would continue implementing the scheme without interruption and aimed to provide houses to every eligible poor family, irrespective of caste, religion or political affiliation.

According to the minister, 4.5 lakh houses were sanctioned in the first phase and another 2.5 lakh in the second phase across Telangana. Nearly 2.4 lakh Indiramma houses have already been completed in the state, he said.

The scheme is being implemented in phases for eligible families in rural areas and tribal hamlets. The minister said the government was also taking steps to construct one lakh houses in the CURE area, where construction of Indiramma Towers had begun. The report did not provide details on the location, design, funding structure or construction schedule for these towers.

Reddy said the government would sanction houses in the third and fourth phases as well, despite financial constraints. He also said that eligible families in constituencies represented by opposition party MLAs were receiving sanction letters, indicating that the government was presenting the scheme as a statewide housing programme rather than one limited to constituencies held by the ruling party.

The latest announcement places the focus on the gap between housing approvals and completed homes. While the government has sanctioned 7 lakh houses in the first two phases, the minister’s figure of nearly 2.4 lakh completed houses shows that construction remains an important stage in converting administrative approval into occupied housing.

The scheme’s delivery will depend on the identification of eligible families, the release of financial assistance, access to land and the pace of construction in rural and tribal areas. The minister’s statement did not specify the financial assistance available per house, the number of beneficiaries receiving the latest letters or a deadline for completing the sanctioned units.

The government is expected to proceed with further phases of sanctions while continuing construction of houses already approved. The next milestones will be the release of additional sanction letters, progress on the one lakh houses proposed in the CURE area and the completion of homes sanctioned under the first two phases.
