Delhi Police Constable Arrested in Alleged Kidnapping Case

Delhi Police constable arrest linked to an alleged kidnapping and extortion case in North Delhi

A Delhi Police constable posted with the North district cyber cell has been arrested along with an alleged accomplice in connection with a kidnapping and extortion case, police said. The accused constable, identified as Moin Ali, was arrested by a team from Kotwali police station on Sunday.

The case came to light after police received information about a kidnapping and a ransom demand. Investigators then began examining the circumstances of the alleged incident and identifying people suspected to be involved, according to the report.

Police analysed technical intelligence and other inputs during the investigation. These leads allegedly connected Ali, who was serving with the North district cyber cell, to the case. Acting on the information gathered, officers arrested him and another person described as his alleged associate.

Ali was suspended from service following his arrest and was subsequently sent to judicial custody, officers said. The police are continuing to examine the roles of both accused and scrutinising the evidence collected during the investigation.

The arrest places renewed attention on the accountability mechanisms that apply when serving police personnel are accused of serious offences. In this case, the constable’s suspension followed the arrest, while the judicial custody order means further proceedings will take place through the legal process. The allegations have not been tested in court.

The reported use of technical intelligence in the investigation also reflects the role of digital evidence and communications data in cases involving alleged kidnapping and ransom demands. The source report did not provide details of the alleged victim, the ransom amount, the location of the alleged incident or the specific evidence recovered from the accused.

The case follows another north Delhi matter reported in May in which seven people, including a Delhi Police constable, were arrested for allegedly robbing a man in the Bara Hindu Rao area. Police had then said that cash and valuables worth more than Rs 50 lakh were taken. Among those arrested was Samay Singh Meena, a constable posted with the Delhi Police’s 5th Battalion, who police suspected was the mastermind.

In that case, police said they recovered Rs 42 lakh in cash and five high-end mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 6 lakh to Rs 6.5 lakh, allegedly purchased using money from the robbery. The earlier case is separate from the kidnapping and extortion case involving Ali.

Police are expected to continue investigating the alleged roles of the two accused and review the evidence gathered in the case. Further proceedings will determine the charges and the legal status of the allegations.
