The child, identified as Nilesh Rathod, suffered serious injuries and died during treatment at a private hospital, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad.
The incident took place in the morning when Nilesh was crossing the road near the junction. The car, reportedly travelling at high speed, struck the child. He suffered serious injuries to the back of his head, as well as to his right leg and left hand.
People in the area gathered after the collision. The driver, identified as Mala Rajesh Mittal, stopped the car and helped arrange medical treatment for the child. The report said the driver also assured the family that the treatment expenses would be covered. Nilesh was subsequently shifted to a private hospital as his condition deteriorated, but doctors declared him dead after a brief period of treatment.
The case was registered by B Division Traffic Police on the basis of a complaint filed by Nilesh’s father, Mahesh Rathod. Police have begun investigating the circumstances of the crash, including how the collision occurred near the Telephone Exchange junction.
The death has severely affected the Rathod family. Mahesh Rathod works as a labourer and supports the family by selling belts at different locations in Ahmedabad. According to the report, he learnt about the accident after returning home from work on the day of the incident.
Nilesh was one of four children in the family and had a five-year-old twin brother, Yogesh. The loss has left the family in mourning, with the death also deeply affecting his twin brother.
The fatality has brought renewed attention to the risks faced by pedestrians, particularly children, while crossing busy urban roads. However, the police investigation will establish the specific circumstances of the collision and determine the legal responsibility of the driver.
