Lakhimpur Kheri police secured convictions in more than 50 cases involving crimes against women and girls in 2026 and traced 1,145 missing or abducted women and girls under Uttar Pradesh’s Mission Shakti 6.0 campaign and Operation Conviction, according to district police data reported on October 19.

Courts decided 33 rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases in the district during the year, resulting in convictions in 23 cases and the sentencing of more than 34 accused, police said. Of the 15 dowry death cases decided during the period, 13 ended in convictions.

All seven molestation cases adjudicated by courts this year resulted in convictions, giving the category a 100% conviction rate in the cases cited by the police. The figures cover cases decided by courts and do not represent the total number of complaints or investigations registered in the district.

Several cases resulted in lengthy prison terms. In one case, a man was sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl. Multiple accused in rape and gang-rape cases involving minor girls received 20-year rigorous imprisonment sentences, while some accused in dowry death and murder cases were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined.

Police attributed the convictions to coordinated investigations, sustained monitoring of serious cases and close coordination between investigators and prosecutors. The cases highlighted by the department included long-pending rape, POCSO and dowry death matters that concluded with convictions.

Alongside the court outcomes, police conducted a district-wide drive to trace missing women and girls under Mission Shakti 6.0. Of the 1,145 women and girls traced and reunited with their families, 941 had been reported abducted and 204 had been reported missing.

Kotwali Sadar police station recorded the highest number of recoveries, tracing 115 women and girls, followed by Mohammdi police station with 97. Police also reported significant recoveries from Gola, Palia, Bhira, Kheri and Mitauli police stations, among others.

Superintendent of Police, Kheri, Khyati Garg, said the district’s priority was to ensure the safety and dignity of women and girls while securing timely punishment for offenders. She said the convictions and recovery of more than 1,100 women and girls reflected coordination between investigators, prosecutors and field teams.

Garg said the police would continue to focus on swift investigations, scientific evidence collection and effective prosecution. Officials also said intensive monitoring of crimes against women and focused recovery drives would continue under Mission Shakti to improve public confidence and strengthen women’s safety across the district.
