Two people died and two others suffered serious injuries in separate road accidents near Barka Dhakaich village on Patna-Buxar NH-922 in Bihar’s Buxar district on Sunday, police said.
The first crash occurred early in the day when a motorcycle carrying Raj Kumar, 23, and Suraj Keshari, 21, struck a middle-aged man on the road. The man, whose identity had not been established, died at the spot. Kumar and Keshari, both residents of Lalganj under Buxar Mufassil police station area, were seriously injured.
Police took the injured men to Dumraon sub-divisional hospital. After initial treatment, Kumar was referred to a trauma centre in Varanasi, while Keshari was shifted to Buxar sadar hospital for further treatment. Police are continuing efforts to identify the deceased man.
The second accident took place around 11am near the same location. Lal Bihari Yadav, 65, a resident of Chakani village under Simri police station area, was crossing the highway when he was hit by a bus carrying a body to Buxar. Yadav died at the scene, while the bus driver fled with the vehicle.
Krishnabrahm police station house officer Chandan Kumar said police examined CCTV footage from the area and identified the bus involved in the second crash. “Police examined CCTV footage from the area and identified the bus. Efforts are on to trace the driver and initiate legal action,” he said.
The two incidents occurred along the same stretch of NH-922 near Barka Dhakaich, bringing attention to the risks faced by both highway users and pedestrians crossing the road. The reported sequence involved a motorcycle collision with a pedestrian in the first case and a bus striking a pedestrian in the second.
Police said both bodies had been sent for post-mortem examination. Authorities are also working to establish the identity of the first victim and trace the driver of the bus involved in the second accident. Further legal action will follow the investigation and identification process.
