MVSR College Incident Leaves Student Dead, Sister Hospitalised

MVSR College incident aftermath near a college event ground in Nadergul

A 19-year-old engineering student, Narayana Das Sona, died after an incident at MVSR College grounds in Nadergul, while her 18-year-old younger sister, Narayana Das Meena, remains hospitalised, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle. The circumstances and cause of the incident have not been established in the supplied report.

The sisters had been attending a Dandiya event at the college, their family told the newspaper. Their father, Narayan Das Ashok, said the two spoke to their parents at about 4 pm and told them they had packed their luggage to return home for Dussehra celebrations. The family later received a call from their daughter’s classmate, Anjana, and was asked to reach Kamineni Hospital at around 9.20 pm.

Ashok said doctors initially gave the family conflicting information about Meena’s condition. He told Deccan Chronicle that doctors first said she was brain-dead and later said she was in a coma, before she was moved to a private hospital in Malakpet for further treatment. The report said Meena remains hospitalised, with women family members staying at the facility.

Sona was pursuing the second year of a Bachelor of Technology course in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, while Meena was a second-year Computer Science and Engineering student, according to Namah Shivaya, identified in the report as the college’s head of department. The report does not specify the nature of the incident, the injuries sustained by the students or the medical findings relating to Sona’s death.

The family confronted the college management at the mortuary, where an argument reportedly took place after Shivaya offered several lakhs to the family. The family refused the offer and demanded police action against the management. Station House Officer Ramesh intervened and assured them that action would be taken according to law, the report said.

Shivaya told Deccan Chronicle that the college had given the entire contract for the event to a private organiser and that college staff were present when the incident occurred. The supplied report does not include the organiser’s name, the terms of the contract, the number of attendees, the event’s safety arrangements or whether authorities had granted any permissions.

Sona’s body was handed over to her family and taken to their native place in Wanaparthy district for the last rites. The report does not state whether a police case has been registered, whether any arrests or formal notices have been issued, or whether the college or the event organiser has been asked to submit records. Those details, along with the exact cause of the incident and the findings of any inquiry, require confirmation from the police, hospital authorities, the college and the event organiser.
