Dandiya Fest Accident: BRS Seeks Rs 1 Crore Aid in Hyderabad

MVSR Engineering College in Hyderabad linked to the Dandiya fest accident

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi has sought Rs 1 crore each for the family of a student who died and for another student who was critically injured in an accident during a Dandiya event at MVSR Engineering College in Hyderabad’s Nadergul area on Saturday night.

BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan has also demanded criminal action against those responsible and an inquiry into alleged safety lapses at the event. In a representation to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Sravan questioned how the programme was permitted without what he described as adequate arrangements for fire safety, crowd control, first aid and emergency medical care.

According to the report, the event was attended by thousands of students and entry tickets were reportedly priced at Rs 350. Sravan questioned the permissions issued by the Education Department and police for what he described as a commercial programme at the college. He sought the public release of the written permissions granted by the departments and asked the government to identify the officials who approved the event.

The BRS leader alleged that the college had failed to ensure essential safety and emergency-response arrangements. He demanded an impartial inquiry by a senior IAS or IPS officer into the incident and sought criminal cases against the college correspondent, principal and event organisers. He also called for action against officials found responsible for granting permissions.

The compensation demand includes Rs 1 crore from the college for the deceased student’s family, government ex gratia and free advanced medical treatment for the injured student. The report does not provide the names or ages of the two students, nor does it detail the nature of the accident or the circumstances in which it occurred.

Sravan further sought a review of the college’s approvals and recognition, along with penalties for educational institutions that violate safety norms. He called for standard operating procedures for cultural events held at educational institutions, including clearer requirements for crowd management, fire protection, first aid and emergency medical facilities.

The demands place attention on the institutional process for approving large student gatherings, particularly events involving ticketed entry and external organisers. The BRS has asked the government to determine whether the required permissions and safety measures were in place before the Dandiya programme was held.

The party said those responsible for the alleged negligence should be held accountable and that justice should be delivered to the affected families. The representation to the Chief Minister and the requested inquiry are the next formal steps identified in the report.
