Antilia Case Deepens as Plea Seeks Param Bir Singh as Co-Accused

Antilia case hearing involving a petition against former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh

A petition seeking former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh’s inclusion as a co-accused in the Antilia case was heard for about an hour in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court, according to the petitioner’s lawyer. The plea was filed by retired assistant commissioner of police Bhimraj Rohidas Ghadge.

Advocate Nilesh Ojha, representing Ghadge, alleged during the hearing that Singh had filed a false affidavit and interfered with judicial proceedings. Ojha also sought action against Singh and his lawyer, including a reference to the Bombay High Court for contempt proceedings. The allegations were made as part of arguments on the petition and have not been established as findings by the court.

The petition seeks to make Singh a co-accused in the case linked to the recovery of explosives near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence, Antilia, in Mumbai. The report identifies Singh as the former Mumbai police commissioner and alleges, through Ojha’s submissions, that he played a central role in the broader conspiracy and events surrounding the case.

Ojha argued that Singh’s response to the intervention petition contained two major errors and false statements. He also questioned why Singh had filed an affidavit when, according to the lawyer, the court had not asked him to do so. The lawyer relied on provisions relating to alleged offences affecting the administration of justice, referring to Section 340 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and its corresponding provision under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

The hearing places renewed attention on the chain of authority within the Mumbai Police during the period covered by the Antilia case. Ojha argued that Sachin Waze, the dismissed police officer accused in the wider matter, could not have carried out such significant actions without the knowledge or approval of senior officers. He further alleged that Singh had brought Waze back into the police force and appointed him head of the Crime Intelligence Unit.

Ojha also referred in court to the investigation of the Disha Salian and Sushant Singh Rajput cases and the arrest of journalist Arnab Goswami, claiming that the officers involved were connected during those episodes. The report does not provide the court’s assessment of these claims or indicate that Singh has been formally added as an accused.

According to the report, Ghadge’s side has also submitted an affidavit to the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Waze matter. The immediate legal question before the NIA court is whether the petition seeking Singh’s inclusion as a co-accused and action over the affidavit will be accepted. Further proceedings and any order by the court will determine the next stage of the request.
