Karimnagar Municipal Corporation has prepared 28 venues for Saddula Bathukamma celebrations, with arrangements costing ₹3 crore and safety measures planned at immersion points across the erstwhile Karimnagar district in Telangana.
The celebrations, scheduled for Sunday, mark the final day of Telangana’s nine-day Bathukamma festival. Municipal corporations, municipalities and gram panchayats in the region have prepared venues by cleaning grounds and arranging electricity, lighting, drinking water and generators.
Barricades have been installed at immersion points to manage crowds and separate participants from water bodies. Professional swimmers have also been deployed as a precaution against accidents during the immersion process.
Karimnagar Mayor Kolagani Srinivas and Deputy Mayor Y. Sunil Rao inspected immersion points at Kothapalli and Gandlakunta. The mayor said drinking water, lighting and sound systems had been arranged at every celebration venue. He also said barricades and professional swimmers had been provided at immersion locations as part of the safety arrangements.
The preparations place municipal services at the centre of a large public gathering, requiring local bodies to coordinate basic infrastructure, crowd movement and emergency precautions at multiple sites. The scale of the arrangements also reflects the administrative demands of conducting celebrations simultaneously across urban and semi-urban locations.
Flower markets in Karimnagar have reported a rush as residents purchase Gunugu, Thangedu, Sitamma Jada, Gummadi, Banthi, Chamanthi and other flowers used to prepare Bathukamma arrangements. The increased demand has accompanied preparations for the final day of the festival.
Authorities are expected to maintain lighting, water supply, crowd-control barricades and personnel deployment at the designated venues during Sunday’s celebrations and immersion activities.
