Badarpur Railway Station Gets Puja Help Desk Ahead of Rush

Badarpur railway station help desk supporting passengers during the Durga Puja travel rush

The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) have jointly established a passenger assistance centre at Badarpur railway station ahead of the Durga Puja travel rush, offering information and support to passengers at one of the Barak Valley’s key railway junctions.

The centre has been set up by the Badarpur GRP police station and the local RPF unit. It is intended to help travellers with necessary information and assistance during the festive season, when passenger footfall at the station is expected to increase.

Badarpur railway station serves passengers travelling through the Barak Valley as well as those from Tripura and Mizoram. The station’s regional importance means that higher festive-season demand can bring more passengers into a concentrated railway environment, increasing the need for accessible information and visible safety support.

The assistance centre will address passenger queries and safety concerns during the Durga Puja period, according to the report. The announcement did not specify the centre’s operating hours, staffing arrangements, or whether it would remain in place after the festive season.

The initiative has been welcomed by the North-East Railway Passenger Association. Office-bearers of the association thanked Badarpur GRP officer-in-charge Binod Kalita and the in-charge of the Badarpur RPF outpost for establishing the facility.

Passenger assistance desks are a frontline service at busy transport nodes, particularly during festival periods when travellers may require help with directions, railway information and safety-related concerns. At Badarpur, the joint involvement of the GRP and RPF brings together the state railway police and the railway security force for the seasonal arrangement.

The association also expressed the hope that passenger assistance initiatives of this kind would continue beyond the Durga Puja period. No decision on extending the centre’s operation after the festive season was reported.
