Jaipur rainfall disrupted traffic on several major roads during the evening rush hour on Saturday, while thunderstorms and showers affected parts of Alwar, Dausa and Sikar districts. The weather activity was linked by the Jaipur Meteorological Centre to active western disturbances moving across the region.
Rain began in Jaipur at about 5.15pm and continued until 6pm. Heavy showers were reported along Queens’ Road, Hasanpura, Kings’ Road, Vaishali Nagar, Tonk Road and Jagatpura, where the sudden change in weather affected vehicle movement and led to traffic chaos at various locations.
The rainfall came after a period of warm conditions in the city and brought relief from the prevailing heat. The Meteorological Centre said similar weather conditions were likely at many places in northern and western Rajasthan.
“Since Oct 15, mild to moderate showers have been witnessed in the northern and western parts of the state. Due to active western disturbances that brought rainfall and thunderstorms, an average dip of six degrees Celsius was witnessed in minimum temperatures,” an officer at the Jaipur Meteorological Centre said.
Dudu in Jaipur district recorded the highest rainfall among the locations cited by the department, receiving 36 mm. Isolated parts of eastern Rajasthan recorded light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder, while most of western Rajasthan remained dry.
The rainfall also coincided with a fall in minimum temperatures across several parts of the state. Mount Abu recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 15.6°C, followed by Sirohi at 16.7°C. Sikar recorded 18°C, Pilani 18.2°C, Alwar 19.4°C, Jhunjhunu 19.7°C, Sri Ganganagar 19.9°C and Nagaur 20°C.
Ajmer and Churu recorded minimum temperatures of 20.8°C each, while Jaisalmer recorded 21.7°C. In Jaipur, the minimum temperature was 22.3°C and the maximum settled at 31.9°C.
The disruption highlights the immediate impact that short-duration rainfall can have on Jaipur’s road network, particularly when showers begin during peak commuting hours. The report did not specify the duration of traffic delays, road closures or any damage to civic infrastructure.
The local forecast indicated partly cloudy skies in Jaipur over the following 24 hours. The Met office said temperatures were likely to fall further over the next couple of days in many parts of eastern and northern Rajasthan.
