Gruha Jyothi Survey Missed? Bescom Sets October 31 Final Deadline

Bescom electricity office handling Gruha Jyothi scheme document verification in Karnataka

Karnataka consumers who missed the Gruha Jyothi verification survey can submit their documents in person at the nearest electricity supply company sub-division office by October 31, after the state government granted a one-time final opportunity to households that were unavailable during door-to-door checks.

The arrangement covers beneficiaries whose homes were locked or vacant when survey teams visited. The government has extended the verification exercise until October 31 and asked eligible consumers to complete document submission at the relevant electricity supply company office before the deadline.

In the Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) jurisdiction, which covers eight districts, 74,29,773 beneficiaries are enrolled under Gruha Jyothi. This total also includes consumers covered by the Bhagya Jyothi, Kuteera Jyothi and Amrutha Jyothi schemes.

Bescom has completed verification for more than 72,40,000 beneficiaries, accounting for almost 97.5% of the total in its service area. However, the survey identified close to 16.1 lakh locked houses and 28,519 vacant houses, leaving a significant number of consumers unavailable when verification teams arrived.

The special document-submission facility follows a request from Bescom, which sought an alternative for consumers who could not participate in the door-to-door exercise. Such beneficiaries must now approach the nearest Escom sub-division office personally and provide the required documents for verification.

The deadline is particularly relevant for households that continue to depend on the scheme but were missed because of temporary absence, locked premises or vacancy. The utility has described October 31 as the final deadline for document verification under this special arrangement and has urged beneficiaries to complete the process to avoid complications relating to their eligibility.

Gruha Jyothi provides eligible domestic electricity consumers with free power up to the prescribed limit. The verification exercise is intended to establish whether existing beneficiaries remain eligible under the scheme and to ensure that qualifying consumers are not excluded solely because they were unavailable during the survey.

For consumers in Bengaluru and the other districts served by Bescom, the next step is to identify the nearest sub-division office and submit the documents before October 31. The reported extension does not provide for another deadline under the special arrangement.
