A car overturned on Undri Road near The Corinthians Club on Saturday morning, renewing residents’ demands for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to urgently reconstruct the deteriorating stretch between Nyati Estate and Punekar Chowk.
Residents said the road has developed multiple cracks and that routine repairs have failed to address the underlying problem. They are seeking a definite timeline from the civic body for reconstruction of the road, which serves a rapidly developing part of Undri.
The incident has also intensified concerns over the volume and type of traffic using the route. Residents have specifically pointed to the movement of heavy vehicles, including ready-mix concrete trucks and water tankers, as an added concern on the damaged stretch.
They have urged the PMC and Pune Traffic Police to take steps against speeding and other unsafe driving practices. Residents also alleged that some motorists use mobile phones while driving, which they said increases risks for other road users. The supplied report does not provide details about injuries or the circumstances that caused the car to overturn.
Undri Road connects an area where residential complexes and commercial establishments have expanded, increasing traffic demand. Residents said infrastructure improvements have not kept pace with this growth, leaving commuters to navigate a road whose condition has become progressively more difficult.
The demand for reconstruction is not new. During an earlier visit to the area, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram had assured residents that the road would be reconstructed. Residents are now asking the PMC to convert that assurance into a defined implementation schedule and begin the work without further delay.
They have also called for an effective traffic management plan during construction. Their concern is that reconstruction itself could create additional disruption for commuters unless traffic diversions and movement controls are planned in advance.
The immediate public issue is therefore twofold: addressing the damaged road surface and managing the traffic conditions that have developed around it. Residents are seeking action from both the civic body and the traffic police, with reconstruction, enforcement against unsafe driving and construction-phase traffic management identified as the next requirements.
