Greater Noida Family Deaths Trigger Food Safety Probe After Five Die

Police and forensic teams investigate the Greater Noida family deaths in Rabupura

Five members of a family were found dead inside their home in Nagla Shri Padam village in Greater Noida’s Rabupura area on Saturday morning, prompting a police investigation into suspected food poisoning. The deaths involved a 37-year-old man, his 35-year-old wife and their three children.

According to the police, the family members were found lying dead in a room after reportedly eating instant noodles on Friday night and going to sleep. The deceased were identified as Mahesh, his wife Lalita, their daughter Mishti, their 11-year-old son Laddu and their three-year-old son Sakshat.

Police said food poisoning was the preliminary possibility, but stressed that the exact cause of death had not been established. The bodies were sent for postmortem examination, while forensic officials and a team from the food safety department visited the location to collect evidence and samples.

The investigation is expected to examine the food consumed by the family, the conditions in which it was prepared and stored, and whether any toxic substance was present. Mahesh’s mother told officials that the family had eaten instant noodles the previous night. That account is part of the preliminary inquiry and does not by itself establish that the food caused the deaths.

Authorities said legal action would be taken on the basis of the postmortem report and forensic findings. Until those reports are available, police have not confirmed whether the deaths resulted from food contamination, poisoning or another medical cause.

The incident has also drawn attention from public representatives. Dhirendra Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party legislator from Jewar, visited the site and said he had informed the Chief Minister’s Office about the deaths. He said investigators were examining whether the food consumed by the family contained poison or whether another factor was responsible.

Singh said police, the administration and the food department were working on the inquiry and that the circumstances of the deaths should be examined. His comments reflected the official position that the cause remained pending forensic and postmortem confirmation.

The deaths highlight the role of coordinated local response in suspected food-related incidents. Police investigators, forensic teams, health authorities and food safety officials may each contribute different evidence, including scene examination, biological samples, food remnants and postmortem findings. The reliability of the final conclusion will depend on how those findings are assessed together.

The case also comes amid political reactions in Uttar Pradesh. Former state chief minister Mayawati expressed concern over the deaths and called for an investigation and action against anyone found responsible. The Samajwadi Party’s media unit also commented on the incident. Those political statements do not establish the cause of death, which remains subject to the ongoing official investigation.

Police said the next steps would depend on the postmortem reports and the results of forensic and food safety testing. Further legal action will follow once investigators establish how the five family members died.
