Delhi Half Marathon runners near central Delhi roads under a traffic advisory

The Delhi Half Marathon will bring traffic restrictions and diversions across key central Delhi roads on Sunday, with the Delhi Traffic Police planning controls from 4:45 am to 11 am as more than 40,000 participants take part in the event.

The race will begin at around 5:10 am from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The event includes the half marathon, an open 10-kilometre race, a run for senior citizens and participants with disabilities, a corporate run and the Great Delhi Run. The routes will pass through important roads and junctions in central and south Delhi, including Lodhi Road, Mathura Road and Kartavya Path.

According to the traffic advisory reported by Live Hindustan, restrictions will be imposed at several points along the race routes. These include the Fourth Avenue-Bhishma Pitamah Marg junction below the Sewa Nagar flyover, Kotla Red Light, Sewa Nagar Red Light, Mehrchand Market Red Light, Second Avenue, Jor Bagh Colony Road and the Aurobindo Marg-Lodhi Road intersection.

Further affected points include the Rajesh Pilot Marg-Amrita Sher-Gil Marg junction, Subramania Bharati Marg intersections with Max Mueller Marg, Maharshi Raman Marg and Archbishop Makarios Marg, as well as Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Neela Gumbad, the Mathura Road-Bhairon Road junction, Q-Point, Man Singh Road roundabout and the Janpath-Maulana Azad Road intersection.

The 21.097-kilometre half marathon will start inside the JLN Stadium complex and proceed via Bhishma Pitamah Marg, Lodhi Road, Sri Aurobindo Marg near Safdarjung Tomb, Mathura Road, Subramania Bharati Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Road and the C-Hexagon. Runners will then move towards Kartavya Path, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg, the Sewa Teerth circle, Maulana Azad Road and the Man Singh Road intersection before returning through the India Gate Hexagon and Canopy roundabout to the stadium complex.

The approximately 2.5-kilometre race for senior citizens and participants with disabilities will also begin at the stadium and travel towards the Lodhi Road intersection before taking a left U-turn and ending at Gate 2 of the stadium. The open 10-kilometre race will run through Bhishma Pitamah Marg, Lodhi Road, the Sri Aurobindo Marg intersection, Mathura Road, Archbishop Makarios Marg and Subramania Marg, where participants will take a U-turn. The return route will include the Lodhi Road flyover and Dayal Singh College before finishing at the stadium.

The corporate run and Great Delhi Run will follow a shorter route from the stadium through Bhishma Pitamah Marg and Lodhi Road towards the Sri Aurobindo Marg intersection. Participants will return along the right carriageway of Lodhi Road and Bhishma Pitamah Marg before finishing outside the main stadium.

The traffic restrictions come as Navratri events are also drawing crowds across the national capital. The report said traffic police personnel are already managing increased movement linked to these celebrations. The restrictions and diversions for the marathon are scheduled to remain in force until 11 am on Sunday, according to the advisory.
