Telangana election authorities have ordered a 100 per cent physical verification of polling stations for the Mahabubnagar–Rangareddy–Hyderabad Graduates’ Constituency before the upcoming Legislative Council polls, with officials required to identify buildings that have been dismantled or converted for residential use and submit rationalisation proposals.
Hyderabad District Election Officer RV Karnan issued the direction to Assistant Electoral Registration Officers during a meeting held on Saturday on preparations for the constituency election. The exercise will cover the existing polling-station network across Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba Gadwal, Narayanpet, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Hyderabad districts.
According to the election administration, 656 polling stations have been identified tentatively across the constituency. The physical inspection is intended to establish whether the buildings listed in election records remain available and suitable for use. AEROs have been instructed to submit rationalisation proposals without omissions after completing the verification.
The directive places the condition and continued availability of public-facing buildings at the centre of the polling preparation process. If a listed building has been demolished, repurposed as a residence or otherwise become unavailable, election officials will need to propose changes to the polling-station arrangement. The report does not specify how many locations may require relocation or what criteria will determine the final rationalisation.
The constituency covers a large and varied administrative area, extending from Hyderabad’s urban districts to rural districts including Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba Gadwal and Narayanpet. A polling-station list spread across nine districts requires coordination between district-level election officials and local administrative units, particularly when buildings change use or are no longer accessible to voters.
Karnan also directed AEROs to communicate the schedule for the de novo preparation of electoral rolls for the graduates’ constituency to political parties. Officials were asked to conduct meetings with recognised political parties and their district-level representatives as part of the process.
The physical verification and electoral-roll preparation are separate but linked components of the election administration’s groundwork. While the station inspection addresses where voting will take place, the de novo roll exercise concerns the preparation of the voter list for the constituency. The election authorities have not stated in the supplied report when the inspections will be completed or when the final polling-station list will be published.
