Hyderabad’s Dasara travel rush has triggered severe congestion at major bus terminals and arterial highways around the city, leaving commuters stranded as tens of thousands of residents travel to their native towns and villages. The disruption was reported across the twin cities and key routes leading into Telangana’s inter-district and interstate network.
The Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, Jubilee Bus Station and Dilsukhnagar recorded heavy passenger footfall from the early hours. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation deployed additional bus fleets to manage the festive demand, but boarding bays and roads around the terminals remained heavily crowded.
The surge in private cars, buses and commercial carriers also slowed traffic on major highway corridors. On the Hyderabad–Vijayawada Highway, or NH-65, congestion extended for several kilometres in Nalgonda district. Construction of a new flyover at Chityal added to the pressure as festive traffic moved out of the city.
Traffic came to a complete standstill near Choutuppal and Borralagudem, with motorists reportedly stranded for more than an hour. Commuters also expressed concern about the absence of active traffic personnel and highway patrol teams to regulate the bottlenecks at critical points.
The Hyderabad–Hanamkonda Highway experienced long queues and slow-moving traffic, particularly around the Yadadri toll plaza. The combination of increased festive travel, highway construction and concentrated traffic at terminals and toll facilities created delays across routes used by both public and private transport.
The congestion highlights the operational pressure placed on Hyderabad’s transport network during predictable seasonal travel peaks. In the immediate situation, the reported response includes additional TGSRTC bus services, while traffic movement remains affected on the identified corridors and around the city’s main departure points.
