Five Family Members Die in Greater Noida; Food Safety Probe Begins

Police and forensic teams investigate a home after five Greater Noida family deaths

Five members of a family, including three children, were found dead inside their home in Nagla Shri Padam village in the Rabupura area of Greater Noida on Saturday morning, prompting a police, forensic and food safety investigation. Police said the deaths may be linked to food poisoning, but the exact cause will be established only after post-mortem and forensic reports.

The deceased were identified as 37-year-old Mahesh, his 35-year-old wife Lalita, their daughter Mishti, 11-year-old son Laddu and three-year-old son Sakshat. According to the police, the family had eaten Maggi on Friday night before going to sleep. Their bodies were found in a room at the house the following morning.

Police teams began examining the circumstances of the deaths after receiving information about the family. Forensic officials and a Food Safety Department team visited the site and collected samples and other evidence. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation.

Officials have not confirmed that the food consumed by the family caused the deaths. The preliminary possibility of food poisoning is based on the circumstances reported by the family and the initial police assessment. Investigators are also examining whether any poisonous substance was present in the food or whether another medical or environmental factor could have caused the deaths.

A member of Mahesh’s family told officials that the five people had eaten Maggi the previous night. Police said further legal action would be taken after the post-mortem findings and forensic examination establish the cause of death. The investigation will also determine whether the food samples contain any contaminant or toxic substance.

The incident has brought renewed attention to the role of local food safety enforcement in rural and peri-urban settlements around the expanding Greater Noida region. In cases of suspected food poisoning, determining the source of contamination requires examination of food samples, the household environment and medical evidence. The investigation is expected to establish whether the deaths were connected to the meal or to another cause.

Jewar BJP MLA Dhirendra Singh visited the site and said he had informed the Chief Minister’s Office about the incident. He said the administration was focusing on determining whether the food eaten by the family contained poison or whether another reason was responsible for the deaths. Singh also said the police, administration and Food Safety Department were working on the investigation and that the precise cause could be confirmed only after the post-mortem report.

Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati expressed grief over the deaths and called for a proper investigation and strict action against those responsible if wrongdoing is established. The Samajwadi Party’s media unit also commented on the incident, alleging wider problems with adulterated and contaminated food in the state. Those political claims were not established in the police information supplied for the incident.

The immediate next steps are the completion of the post-mortem examinations, analysis of samples collected by forensic and food safety officials, and the police inquiry into the deaths. Authorities have said further action will follow the findings of those investigations.
