Delhi Lok Adalat on October 25 Offers Relief on Old Traffic Challans

Delhi Lok Adalat hearing pending traffic challans at a district court complex

The Delhi Lok Adalat will hear pending compoundable traffic challans on October 25, giving vehicle owners an opportunity to seek settlement of eligible cases at seven district court complexes across the capital.

The date was announced in a notice issued by the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA), as reported by Live Hindustan – NCR. The hearing will cover compoundable challans pending up to June 30, 2026. Challans issued after that date, including those from July, August, September and October, will not be included in this session.

Vehicle owners must first download a token, or hearing slip, from the Delhi Traffic Police Lok Adalat portal. Token downloads will begin at 10 am on October 19. The number of tokens will be limited, and applicants have been advised to apply as soon as the portal opens.

The token is mandatory for the hearing. Vehicle owners must carry a printed copy because it will contain the court number and details of the magistrate assigned to the case. Without the token, the challan will not be taken up for settlement at the Lok Adalat.

Applicants have also been advised to carry the relevant documents. These include the vehicle registration certificate, driving licence, pollution-under-control certificate, a copy of the traffic challan and Aadhaar card, according to the information cited in the report.

The Lok Adalat will operate at the Tis Hazari, Patiala House, Karkardooma, Rohini, Dwarka, Saket and Rouse Avenue court complexes. Proceedings will be held from 10 am to 4 pm. The daily capacity has been set at 50,000 challans.

The October 25 hearing follows earlier changes to the schedule. The National Lok Adalat had initially been planned for September 12, but its date was moved because of arrangements connected with the BRICS summit. It was subsequently scheduled for October 10 before being postponed again to October 25, according to the report.

A Lok Adalat is a dispute-resolution forum where eligible cases can be settled through mutual agreement instead of continuing through a longer legal process. In traffic matters, its proceedings can help resolve compoundable challans, subject to the applicable process and the decision taken during the hearing.

The revised schedule makes the token window the immediate operational deadline for vehicle owners. Applicants with challans issued on or before June 30 must obtain the slip from the Delhi Traffic Police portal and attend the court complex specified on it on October 25.
