TGSPDCL Pledges Faster Action on Industries’ Power Problems

TGSPDCL industrial power issues discussed at a Hyderabad stakeholder meeting

Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has promised faster action on electricity-related problems faced by industries after its CMD, Jitesh V. Patil, met industrial representatives in Hyderabad on Saturday. The discussions covered power reliability, tariffs, delayed payment surcharges, solar generation, net metering and dedicated support for high-tension consumers.

The 6th Stakeholders’ Meeting was held at the FTCCI Surana Auditorium at Federation House, where Patil interacted with representatives from various industries. According to the report, the CMD said TGSPDCL would understand the operational requirements of industries and take prompt measures to address their concerns.

The meeting placed the reliability of electricity supply at the centre of discussions. For industrial consumers, interruptions and unresolved service issues can affect production operations, although the report did not provide details of specific outages, affected units or financial losses. TGSPDCL and the participating industry representatives discussed ways to identify concerns at an early stage and resolve them through regular coordination.

Electricity tariff-related matters and the reduction of delayed payment surcharges were also discussed. The report did not specify whether any tariff decision or surcharge waiver was approved. Instead, the CMD assured participants that the concerns raised would be reviewed and that necessary steps would be taken.

Solar power generation and net metering formed another part of the meeting. Net metering allows eligible electricity consumers with generation systems, such as rooftop solar installations, to account for power supplied to the grid under applicable arrangements. The meeting, however, did not announce a revised net metering policy, new capacity target or implementation deadline.

A proposal to appoint dedicated relationship managers for high-tension industrial consumers was also discussed. Such an arrangement would create a more direct channel between the distribution utility and large consumers, but the report did not confirm how many relationship managers would be appointed, which areas they would cover or when the system would become operational.

The stakeholders also reviewed the progress of pending issues raised during the previous meeting. Further action plans and timelines were discussed, though the report did not list the individual pending cases or specify the deadlines agreed for their resolution.

Patil said continued dialogue between the power department, industrial associations and individual industries would help improve the efficiency and reliability of the power supply system. He also said TGSPDCL would consider suggestions and feedback from industry representatives while working towards a more conducive environment for industrial development.

The meeting’s immediate outcome was a commitment to continued coordination and review rather than a formally announced change to tariffs, surcharge rules, solar regulations or supply standards. TGSPDCL’s next steps will be assessed through the action plans and timelines discussed for pending industrial power-related issues.
